Three New Homes

Posted in Uncategorized on January 24, 2008 by Haunt

_dsc5733crop2.jpgI recently moved into three new musical places that I’m very exited about. I bought a Protools 002 from my friend Mark and moved into a studio in the Eastworks building in Easthampton MA. Eastworks is an old factory that is now occupied by artists and shops and condos (Sam and I lived on the fourth floor a few years back). I’m sharing the space with three amazingly talented people (Matt Cullen, Jose Ayerve and Jessie Pietroniro). As a result of noise restrictions, I’ve been using drum machines, amp simulators and midi and creating some different sounds for me. I hope to make some cool sounding stuff there.

My second new home is a place I used to live. I’m back at The Basement in Northampton every Monday night to host the open mic. I’ll start the night with a set of songs. It’s been a few years since I’ve done this and am looking forward to trying out some new stuff and meeting some new folks.

And lastly my third new home is Nine Mile Records. Good folks and good music.

Finishing Up

haunt-hottub.jpgTomorrow is the last day of recording for the new record. Jose and I have been locked away in my new studio in Easthampton for the last week overdubbing vocals and a few more Bob Hennessy guitar parts. I’m exited about the results, Danny Bernini will mix at the end of the month, my main man Worm is working on the layout and cover art and Nine Mile Records will release it in the Spring. Liner notes are written and my last task is the sequence, which if the past is an indicator, I’ll fill a notebook with different orders decide on one and then change my mind during mastering. We’ll see. Above is a photo I found from the “As Blue as Your Dying Eyes” session at Spirithouse. This new record was colder and dirtier and you can tell by the sounds. Thanks for listening Matt

Drew Glackin (1963-2008)

18.jpgMy friend Drew Glackin passed away this week. He was an amazing musician and a beautiful person. I first met Drew when my former band Ware River Club opened for The Silos (a band he played bass in) in Charlotte, North Carolina. He instantly befriended and supported us. He had an enormous personality and will be so incredibly missed. Here’s the message I recieved from The Silos Frontman Walter Salas Humara:It is with the greatest sadness that we inform you of the passing of Drew Glackin. He was unaware of an overactive thyroid condition that led to severe heart damage. He was surrounded by family and friends during his final days and hours and we are all still in a state of shock and disbelief.Drew was adored around the world and his larger than life spirit and contagious jovial energy touched everyone he met, everywhere he went. He was a musician of the highest talent and made his mark in countless bands, record albums, and many thousands of live performances. He will be sorely missed and the memories of his music, his great humor, and his magnanimous generosity of spirit and love will be with us forever.A fund will be set up to help his family with expenses and we will keep you informed of memorial concerts and events as they develop. We will all keep Drew in our hearts,Konrad, Rod and Walter.
